The US bourse continued to thrive on Thursday, nourished by the latest economic data and a series of corporate earnings. The DJIA settled higher by 229 points or 0.5% at 44,484; the S&P 500 rose 33 points or 0.5% to 6,297; and the Nasdaq ended up 153 points or 0.7% at 20,884, setting new closing highs along with the S&P 500.
Large techs were in a mixed bag, with Nvidia (NVDA.US) hiking for three days in a row, up 1% on Thursday to a record high of US$173. TSMC (TSM.US) posted a 61% upswing in last quarter's earnings, with its stock price spiking about 3.4%. Tesla (TSLA.US) sank 0.7%, and Meta (META.US) dipped 0.2%.
PepsiCo (PEP.US) beat expectations with its last quarter's revenue and reaffirmed its full-year earnings target, with its stock price soaring 7.5%. United Airlines (UAL.US) surpassed expectations in 2Q earnings, with the CEO stating that travel demand picked up, leading to a 3.1% leap in stock price.
